Two heads of government of shithole countries with no real allies make a big show of being friends. So what. Trump is right to stop wasting resources trying to persuade India to be an ally of the West.

if one ignores the rare temper tantrum from trump, its clear he and putin remain more than friends. every other month is a meeting to divvy up ukraine and talk trump-related real estate fantasies.

although modi has always been opportunistic, it does not seem loyalty to america has longterm value. one does not need complete leverage over trump, just a visible few. and in any case, bribes are cheaper.

Briliant analysis of how Modi's walking this diplomatic tightrope. Your point about him signaling to Trump that he has alternative freinds is really perceptive, especially given how Trump upset 25 years of careful US-India relationship building. The lopsided trade figurs (63.8B vs 4.9B) show exactly why Putin brought such a large buisness delegation. India's in a position where it can play both superpowers off each other becuase neither can afford to lose it geopolitically.
