Thailand’s Uncharted Waters

The year that has passed since royalist factions of the armed forces ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra by force September 19, 2006, has been fairly predictable. After tossing out the government in a bloodless coup on a rainy Tuesday night that brought Thailand’s tradition of military rule back into focus, the junta also voided the constitution and the constitutional court.
