Most discussion about prostitution in Southeast Asia has focused upon the issues of human trafficking and sex tourism across the region. However, with the exception of those fraudulently lured into the sex trade, a surprising number of girls and women in places like Ancol, Mabini, Clark, Pattaya, Soi Cowboy, Nana, Dannock, Betong, Sungei Golok, Batam, Wan Chai and Labuan—are there of their own free will, without force or direct coercion -- except, sadly, for the economic imperatives of their poverty-stricken lives.
