If Marcos Jr. is as popular in the Philippines as you claim, how do you explain Sara Duterte’s influence and chances in 2028? Filipinos are not ignorant—they do not favor antagonizing any neighbor, and it’s obvious Marcos Jr. is allowing his country to be used by both Japan and USA to contain China.

Apples and oranges, is the easy answer. Also why she has been more careful to toe the line than break away. As for public opinion on China and the USA one only has to look either at regional surveys (linked to above) or the reputable surveys tracking public opinion on the PRC and USA.

Yes, there are more remittances from USA than China. Eventually, people will figure out tourism yuan can potentially match remittance dollars. Anyone who visits Manila knows it’s time for a change—the city has become uninhabitable outside the Fort.
