A new book presents the view that 1969 race riots were instigated by ambitious Malay politicians. Now it seems the book will be banned by the government.

may13bookThirty-eight years on, the traumatic ethnic riots of May 13, 1969 in Malaysia remain as much a subject of official censorship as the events of June 4, 1989 in China. Now a new book by a Malaysian Chinese academic is on the point of being officially banned for suggesting that May 13 was the occasion for what amounted to a coup against the independence leader and Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman by his United Malays National Organisation colleagues who were pushing pro-Malay policies. Officials of Malaysia’s Internal Security Ministry Tuesday confiscated 10 copies of the book from a Kuala Lumpur bookstore, advising the store not to sell it as it may be banned. According to a letter issued by ministry officials, the book is suspected of being an “undesirable publication.”

What happened on May 13 remains highly relevant to UMNO’s position as the leader of the Barisan National, the alliance of race-based parties that has ruled the country since independence 50 years ago.

“Declassified Documents on the Malaysian riots of 1969” by Dr. Kua Kia Soong, the principal of New Era College, is based not directly on Malaysian sources but on now-open British documents held at the Public Records Office in Kew Gardens, near London. These consist of contemporary British diplomatic and intelligence reports which suggest that the riots were not spontaneous acts of communal violence, as is constantly alleged by UMNO, but were fanned by Malay elements, with support from the army and police, wanting to discredit the accommodating prime minister and impose a much more rigorous Malay agenda. One British document concluded that the goal was to “formalize Malay dominance, sideline the Chinese and shelve Tunku.”

The official Malaysian government version of events was that the riots were sparked by opposition parties “infiltrated by communist insurgents” following huge opposition gains in the election. Although the UMNO-led Alliance, the predecessor of the Barisan National, retained an overall majority, it lost its two thirds majority and its control of Selangor state was threatened. Certainly there was much celebrating among the mainly Chinese opposition parties at the election result, which angered Malay politicians who sensed their political dominance was under threat.

By the time the riots were over, official figures said 196 people had been killed, 6,000 made homeless and more than 700 buildings destroyed or damaged.

Non-Malays in particular have long believed that though there was violence on both sides, it was a mostly one-sided affair with some Malay politicians, notably Selangor Chief Minister Harun Idris, encouraging mobs to attack Chinese areas and that the security forces initially did little to prevent violence. This is largely confirmed by contemporary reports such as those of Far Eastern Economic Review correspondent Bob Reece.

Kua’s thesis suggests that there was a grander political design behind the episode, which from the beginning was intended to create a new political agenda and new leadership. He attributes this to a younger Malay group dissatisfied with the aristocratic, pro-British the Tunku.

In any event, the Tunku effectively stepped aside as emergency powers to rule by decree were (temporarily) placed in the hands of a National Operations Council headed by his deputy Tun Abdul Razak – father of current deputy prime minister Najib Abdul Razak. The Tunku remained prime minister until September 1970 but had little authority any more. In 1971 he also stepped down as president of UMNO after virulent criticism by the Malay “Young Turks,” headed by Mahathir Mohamad, the future Prime Minister. The same year the government enunciated the New Economic Policy and began aggressive affirmative action programs to advance the economic and educational level of Malays.

However, while the consequences of May 13 may be clear, there are disagreements about Kua’s thesis even among those who attribute the riots to Malay politicians. For example, Dr Syed Husin Ali also a respected academic and deputy head of the opposition Keadilan Party, has suggested that while some UMNO figures used the events as an opportunity to sideline the Tunku and set out a pro-Malay agenda, it was not planned as such.

In other words, Razak and others took advantage of the situation which arose after the election and the appearance of Malay mobs to grab the reins of power from the Tunku, with whom they were dissatisfied, but that it was not premeditated. Syed also takes issue with Kua’s view that they represented an aspirant Malay capitalist class when most had traditional and feudal links.

Bookstores have been advised not to sell Kua’s book and a formal ban looks likely on the grounds that it will stir up racial animosities, which it could well do in the short run. However, from a broader perspective it is hard to see how a multi-racial, multi-religious Malaysia can flourish if events such as May 13 can only be discussed in private, while the public is fed a distorted official version in order to sustain the legitimacy of UMNO politicians.

The May 13 incident as personally related by Tunku Abdul Rahman, the First Prime Minister of Malaya/Malaysia and Bapa Merdeka

At his residence in Penang, 1972

“It was clear to me as well as the police that in the highly charged political atmosphere after the police were forced to kill a Chinese political party worker on May 4th, 1969, something was bound to happen to threaten law and order because of the resentment towards the Government by the KL Chinese on the eve of the general election. This was confirmed at this man’s funeral on the 9th May when the government faced the most hostile crowd it had ever seen.

Therefore, when the opposition parties applied for a police permit for a procession to celebrate their success in the results of the general election, I was adamant against it because the police were convinced that this would lead to trouble. I informed Tun Razak about this and he seemed to agree.

Now, without my knowledge and actually “behind my back”, there were certain political leaders in high positions who were working to force me to step down as a PM. I don’t want to go into details but if they had come to me and said so I would gladly have retired gracefully.

Unfortunately, they were apparently scheming and trying to decide on the best way to force me to resign. The occasion came when the question of the police permit was to be approved.

Tun Razak and Harun Idris, the MB of the state of Selangor, now felt that permission should be given knowing fully well that there was a likelihood of trouble. I suppose they felt that when this happened they could then demand my resignation.

To this day I find it very hard to believe that Razak, whom I had known for so many years, would agree to work against me in this way. Actually, he was in my house as I was preparing to return to Kedah and I overhead him speaking to Harun over the phone saying that he would be willing to approve the permit when I left. I really could not believe what I was hearing and preferred to think it was about some other permit. In any case, as the Deputy Prime Minister in my absence from KL, he would be the Acting PM and would override my objection. Accordingly, when I was in my home in Kedah, I heard over the radio that the permit had been approved.

It seems as though the expected trouble was anticipated and planned for by Harun and his UMNO Youth. After the humiliating insults hurled by the non-Malays, especially the Chinese, and after the seeming loss of Malay political power to them, they were clearly ready for some retaliatory action. After meeting in large numbers at Harun’s official residence in Jalan Raja Muda near Kampong Bahru and hearing inflammatory speeches by Harun and other leaders, they prepared themselves by tying ribbon strips on their foreheads and set out to kill Chinese. The first hapless victims were two of them in a van opposite Harun’s house who were innocently watching the large gathering. Little did they know that they would be killed on the spot.

The rest is history. I am sorry but I must end this discussion now because it really pains me as the Father of Merdeka to have to relive those terrible moments. I have often wondered why God made me live long enough to have witnessed my beloved Malays and Chinese citizens killing each other.”

nation
written by globetrotter , November 18, 2008
as a nation everybody should have equal rights. problems with the world today we tend to cast people by giving title(s). if there are equal rights basically everybody can meet each other without any barriers. when people have such title(s) majority of them will tend to abuse the power. power is meant to be distributed evenly to the people so that all jobs can be done properly and better. in fact every human being are just god creation and what god gives us(power, air, soul, earth, etc.) in this world are basically free, but still the human themselves destroy them(greenhouse effects).Even if anybody makes a sin god still forgive cause god is great. Power within us is not ours. it is from god. therefore we have to distribute it evenly and don't abuse it.smilies/cool.gif

Umno did changed after May 13, from worse to worst.
written by Change , October 10, 2008
Umno did changed after May 13, from worse to worst. Umno at its best during Tunku era. After that, the party is being manipulated by all the latter PMs and the cornies... to join forces and abuse of power, corrupted and on and on making racist speechs so that it makes the Malay feel frighten of other races, especially the Chinese. There style: diversion... and they are still using the same tatic till now. Spreading lies on one hand and corruption on the other hands. Wake up all Malaysian, if you want a better future we have to vote for the opposition. Since Tun Abdul Razak adminstration till now, almost 38 years .. its too long and its time to pass to a transparent and fair goverment. BN and especially umno... it is too dirty and corrupted... it BEYONG REPAIR. Its like a huge tree... it rots from the roots, trunk, branches, smaller branches, leaves, flowers and friuts. Even the soil beneath their roots smell bad... The only remedy.. dig out the roots, cut down the tree and burn it. Dig up the soil, put it under the sun to kill all the bacteria, and replace with healthy but smaller tree. Not long after this ... the tree will bear healthy friuts.

And why fight? It's time to repair the damage.

We got along quite well over the past 20 years but thanks to the greed of UMNO members who just wanted to rob hardworking people of their hard-earned money, the bumiputera policies began to expand uncontrollably. They want everything. This goes to bumi, that goes to kroni. The only way they contribute to all the projetcs awarded to them is to raise thier costs... to feed their huge parasitic family clans. What's worse is that they play the race card in order to rally support for the ridiculous policies they invented.

Thanks to them we are now at odds with each other.

HISTORY is distorted by victors.British and Americans after world war 2. British historian on Malaya's history while they were colonist and UMNO when they rule the country.
May 13 should be exposed, so that the Melayu knows what the Melayus did to non- meleyu. let the melayu decide but never allow Melayu UMNO decide.Even the konfrontasi with Indonesia was distorted, it had to do with the British. No one mentioned about Malay colloboration with Japanese during WW2.And what about Memali?
The British were masters of propaganda and Josef Boebel was a student of british propaganda. Malaysia seems to excel but the internet now is the main barrier. So bloggers will be the next victim !!!!Run bloggers to the Turkish Embassy.

What's the use of digging-up the past? What good will it bring? If it is bad we should learn not to repeat it. If it is good, perhaps we should be better. Focus on lessons worth learning so that mistakes made will not be repeated. But what is Kia's actual intention when he started pointing fingers? By the way, documents kept by the British aren't always gospel's scriptures. They are damned good at manipulating facts. They are the experts. It has always been their people who were and are the best..Lord Nelson... Frank Swettenham... etc..etc.. I say this book should be banned.

re-defining PERPADUAN
written by Yakuzanam , June 30, 2008
Agree with you, Tok Janggut. That should be the way. I do feel offended when Chinese and Indians are called as Immigrants. That's very racist. BANGSA MALAYSIA should be the right phrase. If all the Malaysian as well as the Leaders in the country can contemplate wisely on this terminology, I believe the country can easily achieve a 'real' unity. A new definition of 'Perpaduan' will be re-interpreted.

Malays, Chinese and Indians are ALL IMMIGRANTS
written by Yakuza Nam , June 23, 2008
to Ahmad Albab :
TWO words to describe U, Ignorant Extreme. One of the stupidest and shallow statement ever heard by me. Shame on you. Just to remind you, the Country's Independence was successfully achieved by 3 Big Races and they are Malays, Chinese and Indians. So, what bullsh*t R U talking about ? Every single Race in the country deserves their RIGHTS ! After all, in Federal Constitution, it states that "Hak Istimewa kepada Kaum Bumiputra" ... Bumiputra = The Aboriginals (or in your term, should be regarded as Orang Asli." In Conclusion, the Country's Independence was achieved by all NON-Aborigines and that includes Malays. By the way, to answer your shallow question, Australia can be ONE of the good example that give recognition to the immigrants coz the Mat Sallehs there are immigrants or in fact, I would say Prisoners.
Accept the fact, Malays are originally from Indonesia la. That's why the language and culture are so similar. U can speak Aborigines Language or Dialect ? If not, just keep quiet and stop complaining about other Immigrants. We Chinese and Indians are the same as U, Malays. IMMIGRANTS !!!
My advice to U, study UR history and things around the world before U try to make statement that will only illustrate UR shallow thoughts. Cheers.

Give Penang 5 years, let see if the amount of Surau in Penang will be cut down?
Do you know that McDonald & KFC in other countries are serving Pork, and the pork chop & pork burger are their best seller? Let see if McDonald or KFC in Penang will start selling pork chop and pork burger under Chinese government?
This is your rights, we don't take away your rights. We just want fair competition. Non-Malay right had been taken away for 50 years and that's enough tolerant and respect.

Dear Everyone...

I scrolled through the comments on this page and i couldn't help but feel very disturbed at the sheer ignorance that some people displayed as well as the outright racism that some of you showed. I truly pity racists like you. I'm not angry... i just pity you.
You are missing out on some of the most fulfilling experiences of you life by being racist. It doesn't matter if you are pro-malay, pro-chinese, or pro-indian even...by being racist you block yourself out from the rest of the world and what it has to offer. I also find it funny that these individuals would shun their fellow Malaysians but would have no problem at all interacting with their former conquerors the English... I pity those with such limited mental capacity.
In a way...ALL of us are immigrants to this land. Indians came from India, Chinese traders were here in ancient Malacca, even the Malays moved here from Palembang, Java, and Sumatera.. whose population in turn came from places like Arabia, and India... come on people.

Learning History is the greatest lesson in humility one can get...but you have to be willing to learn first.

I see lots of angry statement written by the Chinese, Malays and others... against each other. Let me tell YOU ALL.... it is easy to let go the words... but to take it back it will be damn hard. For the ones calling the CHinese the pigs... and the ones calling Malays pigs and insulting ISlam and for all the other things.... I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND YOU ... you know nothing about MAY 13 suffering and racial riot!! All you know is what you read and hear. YOU GUYS ARE STUPID...

If you have lived to talk about it... you will appreciate more...

YOu have not seen fellow MALAYSIAN cutting each other throat in violent.... killing your parents.. wife, children and etc. If you continue like this, I will not be surprise you will see the day your family members being butchered.... that time THINK ABOUT THIS COMMENT.. morons

LETS DROP THE WORD MALAY, CHINESE , INDIAN & ETC, lets stick to the word MALAYSIAN... unite and grow in peace. It does not matter you are in BN or Pakatan, stick to your team/party and if you win the election, then you rule... thats democratic.

Remember, if things happens such as in RWANDA.... do you think you will be happy to be in MALAYSIA... no matter what is you RACE?

From what i hv read.. Jehat seems like an un educated fellow. He doesn't even knows his own history and roots. From what he has written, he seems to be a "Samseng" or some "Mat rempit" himself who doesn't not contribute much to the country development. We should take a look at the incident that is happening at the Bandar Makota Cheras where all "Residents" stand as one and united to overcome thier problem. This is not a racial riots .. but one that is united to overcome a day to day problem. If Jebat was there as their leader, i think it will turned into a racial riots instead.

Richard Koh is the only one among you who has guts and does not hide behind a synonym, and his comments are not laced with depletives, and they truly hold some water. Perhaps everyone else, especially the sorry creatures of all denominations spitting bile, should take a cue from that. I am a kwai lo or mat salleh or whichever other description you favour, i am also a Muslim (M is for Mariam) and have lived in Malaysia for 29 years, witnessing much of its decline into a country ruled by fear, its people chracterized more and more by a culture of kiasu, erosion of morals, lack of conscience, etc. that results in such a climate. Most of all I have seen a concerted effort on the part of certain quarters to get the communities, ethnically and religiously, polarized. The effect of these 'noble' efforts of purification are among others the sorry creatures spitting hateful accusations at members of other communities. In fact, Malaysia is built on the efforts of all races, their labour and also their loyality to and faith in this country, rich or poor, educated or otherwise, Malay, Chinese, Indian or whatever else. Yes taxes are mostly paid by the Chinese communities, and this is a fact, like it or not. Malays are the bulk of the population, so likely will run it, like it or not. Most of the people here who are not ethnic Malay have come here many generations ago, and today their descendants are born and bred "MALAYSIANS". And what about those Malays who only came here 100-200 years ago, and the Chinese who came here 450 years ago? Tolong fikir, fikirlah sikit, Jebat..........
How about my children who are half Malay and half Orang putih, klasifikasi manaaaa???
Historically speaking, Jebat, many of the Malays originate from the CHINESE province of Yunnan and reached Malaya over the South China Sea or over the landbridge connecting the Malay peninsula with the rest of SouthEast Asia. Tak tahu kah? Make the trouble to read.......is that not what Allah asked prophet Muhammad SAW to do via the Archangel Gabriel when he was first chosen to be a prohet???
I have friends from all races and different religions, and judge their worth by what they have in their hearts, by universal values that are similar to all religions as well. The shell Malay, Indian, Muslim, Buddhist is no issue, because that would be to judge a book only by its cover. And by the way Jebat, I am sure you pray lima waktu setiap hari, at least, each time saying bismillahhirrahmanirrahim, In the Name of Allah the COMPASSIONATE and MERCIFUL. Ever thought of why we are asked to repeat those two sifat Allah?? Please try to use the brain that Allah has given you other wise you are just an animal.......

The fact is...I AM MALAY, U R CHINESE, U R INDIAN, so what now...?
written by I AM MALAY , May 23, 2008
What an interesting day for me to be reading all these comments. There are some that really cracked me up, especially those with ' racially insulting' remarks. I must say that those using harsh words and insulting other races be it malays, chinese or indians are plain ignorant and these people should be called hooligans! Those whom have made these remarks are the cause of a country's unstability, and these people ranges from diverse backgrounds, such as businessmans, blue collar workers, white collars, professionals and even high ranking government officials.
I am a Malay, and yes I am proud to be one. Being born and bred in Petaling Jaya, I’ve made many friends from different races and backgrounds. I still hang out with my non malay friends, and my line of work, I meet more and eventually consider them as close friends. I still visit their house from time to time, go for Chinese or Indian wedding, and talk about politics in the open.
And if you want to mention about religion, I do pray 5 times a day, I don’t drink, I eat halal food and I gain respect from my non malay friends by doing just that. I respect them and they respect me and my religion, culture and background.
It’s not about being born a certain race that makes you a better person, it is being true to your beliefs and respecting others for what they believe in. One race will never be superior than the other, just like how the negro’s were in the USA. The Jews in Israel, the Caucasians in South Africa. These are all examples from the past that WE Malaysians should learn.
Being a Malay, I too disagree with how SOME Malays behave, talk or act, same goes with how SOME Chinese and SOME Indians behave, talk or act. But I’ve never looked at it at a racial point of view, I just look at it as an individual. My Chinese & Indian friends are an individual, and that is how we get along.
So basically, it is how you perceive it that really matters. Not the abu’s, Ah tong’s or Lingam’s. Come let’s eat rendang for raya, have some mandarin oranges and play poker during gong xi fa cai and eat some muruku and lotsa sweet delicacies for deepavali shall we?

Moving Forward: The Choice
written by dteng , May 18, 2008
While some of us may get worked up about the past, we must not forget that all races in Malaysia are INTER-dependent. No race is perfect but in all their imperfection, Malaysians have made Malaysia a successful country. Pause to look at countries around us - Myanmar, Laos, Philippines, Indonesia etc, and we would be glad we are not going through their state of affairs.

The NEP has done us some good - Malays can afford to spend more, there is a growing middle class among them; but it is also doing them harm - with growing corruption and wealth disparity and creating a less competitive or "weaker race", just the opposite of what the NEP wanted to do for them.

On the other hand, no one can deny that the Chinese and Indians paid the price for their "citizenship" with most/many of them "deprived" of fairness. In the process, it is the Chinese and Indians who are more prepared to compete in the "global" economy. The test of this is to do check the number of Malaysian (by race) professionals/expatriates who are working/thriving overseas. In addition, one could also compare the number of companies (by the race that own or manage them) that are thriving overseas.

HOPE: Malaysians should stop getting fixated (they may read about the past to learn what not to do in the future)over the past if they wish to move forward for the sake of their future generations.

It is time to work for a better future through a EITHER a change of Government OR a change in the BN's Government "Affirmative" (read as discriminatory) Policy and Practices which will weaken this nation.

It is time to think as ONE nation, and put all the anger, frustrations, and bitterness behind us.

The time to change has arrived.

I have nothing but sympathy for the Malays. How they cling to their ego, their so called heritage.By giving priviledges to their people, they are instead harming themselves, unconsciously digging into a deeper hole.Being overly dependent on their government, and not develop to their full potential. But I do have lots of hope that a new generation of open minded Malays will ourgrow the old one-unlike some Malays who're naive enough to think that Malays get their scholarships to UNIs fair and square.Haven't you watch SEPET?And by being afraid that Chinese are going to rule your country, wake up,it's not only yours,it's our country too.

Let us give them certain precedence as the winning parties in Perak has chosen.
The facts published by Dr Kua are long suspected truth. The present opportunity should not be wasted by contributing to Malays suspicions. We want them to accept us as equals and that would take time.

I saw May 13, 1969 with my own eyes. I was then about 21 years old. I knew why or how it happened. But it is unlikely to be repeated.

If there is to be another similar incident, this time it would be Malays against Malays, with Chinese as their allies or foes. It would be like a Civil war.

Our current govt. policies need to change, otherwise there will be more emigration by the rich (Chinese and Malays). We, the poor, will be left to solve problems - failing, we would end in disaster.

So, be prepared to dare to speak up. Only by open discussions can we hope to solve these problems.

Race, Religion and Language is not sensitive. But the people are. So don't encourage people to sensitive; instead, do encourage them to be open-minded. Religion is made for man, not Man for religion!

This is actually a place in another white foreign land that has their own seperate curriculum their own seperate television, radio and newspapers. It is in Canada a country that sits beside the United States of America. In one province in Canada called Quebec there are people who cannot speak a word of English just French. In another territory in Canada called Nunavut the people have there own schools and seperate media and speak there own orang asli language. The accomodating of many different cultures and races in one country can be done but it only can work if the people do so because they respect and love each other. In Malaysia where is the respect and the love I ask you where?

I voted the BN all my life. I had no reason to think that the government is so BAD! Yes, everyone MUST amalkan "dasar toleransi" but with so many chain of "events" in newspapers makes you think ...oh no...this can't be true. So..the issue here is not the race it is the fundamentals of having good, honest God-fearing individulas who represent the government.

I love my Malay friends and I always am grateful and appreciative of the bond that we have for ages. I have nothing against Islam BUT I must say Islam in Malaysia SEEMs to be HOLIER than any Islam outside Malaysia. My brother -in-law is Pakistani and he is a devout Muslim. He does his SOLAT eventhough there is SO much noise and disturbance in the room with children and he doesn't even get angry. When we were eating in a Chinese restaurant, he came over to join us with his "ta pau" food that was "halal". I felt SO BAD...I felt it was NOT tactful of me to eat "BABI" in front of him...so I cover my food in front of him so as not to offend him with what I am eating. He said..."please there is no need to do that". You know what...I cried right in front of him. I felt SO touch for knowing someone truly being a true devout Muslim properly following the teachings of S.A.W Mohammad. I even inherited the English version of the GLORIOUS KORAN...and I don't think Islam is like that!!!

Can you read? I mean really read- before you act on your hate? I said 'integrate' and not “follow my culture totally”. You need to be able to live well among the people whom you have come to live with. So who were here when you guys got here – the Hutus? Who said you cannot learn your mother tongue? Theres no denying that in this globalized world we must be able to to speak many languages in order to be successful. You have your Chinese schools don’t you? You are free to practice your religion aren’t you? We have temples all over Msia don’t we? Stop whining!

But of course those abandoned Chinese babies were dumped bcos their parents were poor but hey, they also happened to be GIRLS – not a favourite gender with the Chinese or are you going to deny that too. We were very poor too mind you, my grdma had 3 other girls of her own plus some boys. I know other Malay families who have taken in female Chinese babies aside having their own kids. But they (the Chinese) kept the boys though, strange how come they are not also "poor “ for their boys!

FYI. I never received handouts from anybody and I speak 5 languages fluently and just like you, we work very hard for a living . Even more so before, when the Chinese run the banks and would only help their kind. When were you born Agahdemo? Sure you can speak Bahasa – pidgin Bahasa at least. But we know well how rare it is to find you guys speaking it like you actually come from here or are you just going to deny this fact too.

C’mon give us a break, you really think the Chinese are the only ones who helped built this nation? Stop the bull, u arrogant, greedy and selfish ingrate.

Malay vs Chinese
written by Sly , February 04, 2008
I agree that we Chinese are not very welcomed by most countries. We are like cockroaches that came from nowhere, spread fast and hard to control. But it's sad for me to hear that we are still considered as 'immigrants' by some Malaysians, we regard Malaysia as our home. We Chinese are Malaysians. Malaysia is called as a multi racial country, so minorities like Chinese & Indians are not 'immigrants'. It's hard for people of different races & cultures to live together peacefully. And different cultures means different values and sensitives. Malay put friendship as priority and embraces Islam; Chinese appreciates hardwork and education, in other words, productivity. I know it hurts for Chinese company not to (or seldom) employ Malay. But Sally you must understand the reason behind: in general, Malay's productivity is lower than Chinese, partly caused by NEP's spoon-feeding policy and partly because Islam's practices like Puasa & others. Chinese regards Malay as parasite, Malay regards Chinese as cockroach, so we (Malaysians) are easy to be controlled by politicians (BN or BA) by igniting racial flames among us. Grow up guys, Malaysia will keep on sliding down if we know just how to shout on others what we unhappy of

Sally , you said:"Chinese never sincerely or even intended to integrate into the Malaysian society." May i ask what sort of definition is your Malaysian society? One that assimilate to follow your culture totally? Malaysia is a multicultural society. To learn mother tongue such as Mandarin and Tamil are our rights, and i haveno regret whatsoever for learning extra language now that make me globally competitive.
You said: "They look down on the Malay culture and so you still find 10th generation Chinese half abled to converse in the national language (the Bahasa)to this day and consider the Malay culture way below them." Malaysian , Other than " malay" are known around the world to have master several languages, only people like still like to remain in caves!! Look to Indonesia and see how they preserve their cultures, not like you copy cats!!There is no such thing as " malay cultures"

Fact is all my life in Malaysia before n after May 13 I've observed that the Chinese never sincerely or even intended to integrate into the Malaysian society. They want their own schools(where on this planet can you have ur own schools with ur own curriculum as an immigrant etc? Try doing that in the US or some other white foreign land!!) God these Chinese even have their own TV channels way bfore. They look down on the Malay culture and so you still find 10th generation Chinese half abled to converse in the national language (the Bahasa)to this day and consider the Malay culture way below them. When they set up business , guess who they will employ? To all those not in the know or born way after this and being told sob stories by ur parents - sorry the truth hurts! The govt had to implement regulations bcos they would only employ their own kind. Not to mention they are also racist when it comes to business chambers and associations. I still remember that following day after that May 13/69 election, when I accompanied my gradma to the pasar ( market) - the Chinese sellers treated her arrogantly and telling this poor old woman to " balik kampung" (go back to your village). Got lots more to tell bcos we lived right in the middle of town. My grandma adopted some 8 kids (all abandoned Chinese babies). I thank god almighty for that. I would pick the kind Malay race anytime. Its not hard to see why the Chinese got what they deserve but they are good aer playing the victims. I say reap what you sow!! May 13 - Razak - Najib
written by Sivaji , January 05, 2008
It was known that Razak, Harun and Mahathir were behind the May 13. They have stimulated riots to preserve Malay power and they have succeeded. Now Najib is doing the same. He has declared Malaysia as an Islamic state where previous leaders have repeatedly said Malaysia is a secular state. Now Najib is bringing Malaysia close to terrorism instigating the fanatic Muslisms to go against Non-Malays especially the non muslims.

Even though their goals can be achieved but they bound to fail. Foreign investments may be pulled out, Malays are too dependent on govt concessions and they may not do good for Malaysian economy. If Chinese and Indian interest were hurt then the total economy will collapse.

I hope Malaysian govt does something very urgently to take care of the interest of all races. Malay interests that have been long enjoyed got to be sacrificed. I know it is easy to say than done.

I am one of the affected Indian during 1975 when Razak brought NEP. I wanted to become a gangster and hated Malay govt. policies (not Malay people). It was because of my father (a govt servant) showed me the way to good education with all his lifetime savings, now I stand as an educated person. I can fully understand the feelings of misguided people who have ended up as tugs. I can I help? Are they beyond any help - a desaster from NEP!

Kee to deciphering Umno semiotics
written by Malaysia Baru , December 14, 2007
So now for Hishammuddin to say that he would use the keris again in 2007 as a protector of all Malaysians – not just Malays – is disingenuous. Any intelligent Malaysian can see through the doublespeak.
What is even worse – and insulting – is what he said about "desensitizing" non-Malays to the issue of the keris. Only a person with a supercilious attitude would behave that way. What he implies by that statement is that non-Malays must accept what he does, no matter how revulsed they are by it. It's like slapping someone in the face and then slapping him again and again, and telling him that he has to tolerate it each time until he gets used to it. What arrogance!

our country policy is outdated..... the matter of fact is that we are losing out to other country.... Giving company's shares to others just like that will not attract any foreign fund and confident.... having a bunch of lazy and slow workers will only increase expenses and also not competitive .... beside that, our policy will cause a lot of people to dislike thier own country and good talents will migrate without thinking (patriotism tak ada...only money matters) ... c why still so many international firm wanna to station at singapore rather than malaysia and it's way cheaper to start one in malaysia rather in singapore. Really can figure out what you all are thinking... Corruption and others privillage will only cost more ...this make all the service and goods more expensive...looking at skin color will not help ,what we wants is talented people... everyone can do it as long we try ....so i think our policy is the one to blame for the country to turn out this way not the people....

written by D , November 28, 2007
I agree not all malays are bad and racist but i totally agree that all MALAY POLITICIANS are bad and racist cuz they are only focusing on the benefits and the welfare of THEIR race only!! The only reason they are giving a little back to the rest of the people is because Malaysia is projected as a MULTIRACIAL country which i believe all Malaysians know for a fact that Barisan National and gang have everything under their control

TO: wow scary chinese : malay : http://none

Totally disagree with you. Malaysia Chinese are wealthy was due to their hard work!

Come to a story of a father and sons story, the 1st son was lazy and day dreamer, the 2nd son was a step son who is hardworking and tolerant.

After years had passed, the step son had success and become wealthy, leaving the elder Son unsettle and jealous. Then he start to put pressure on his father to help him achieve better living, at the same time limited the progress of the step son. From the beginning, the step son think that to help up his elder brother to achieve better living is reasonable.

Years had passed, the elder son have achieved better living but he wanted more, he wanted the wealthy of his younger brother. Then more limitation had put on the step son by the father. The elder son grow under this unfair advantage, but with all the limitation, the step son was unable to progress but going backward. Step son still show some tolerant with his father and elder brother's behavior. But after 20 years of limitations and oppression, his elder brother still think he deserve more and want to take the parts from his brother, but this time the step son starts to fight back. He fight back not because he is greedy, but is because the basic human right had been taken from him, he never been fairly threaten by his so call father.

Face it unsettle Non-Bumis: You are the step son, we have to compete under an unfair advantage. Help yourself or sacrificed!

Face it Bumis: Be thankful to your father, put more hard work rather than always relies on someone, stop all the excuses and don't claim other parties GREEDY because you are as greedy too.

Nuff of these bashing.I had to agree and also disagree on most of the ealier postings. Both sides are right in each others ways. For me its like this.Let say im your father(to all of you bumis non bumis).I let you stay in my house feed you educate you raise you.Of course i want the best for you.As you grow you wanted more.Of course i as the father set the rules.""no u cant bring ladies back home at night,no dont do drugs,no dont fight your elder brother" But some of you still want to.Demanding more and more. But i (as the father) wont let it happen. So what do you do? (a)You kill me and take over? (b)You run away and do what you think is best for you? (c)You follow these rules and make the best of it (d)keep bitching and try to make matters worse. Go figure! Frankly option (b) and (c) is more like it. I've had relatives, friends that make tons and never came back home, be it bumis non bumis.I have friends bumis non bumis still stand with pride when the national anthem is on(no kidding). So what im trying to say here in this mumbo jumbo,if you like it you stay. You want the rights do it the right way if you think its possible.I'll be patting your back if you get it.If you dont like it,go somewhere migrate like most of the non bumis have done since forever before and make money and buy your own country and rule it yourself anyway you like it.I wish you luck.(A)Stay and try not to bitch too much (B)Be your own boss . wow looks like the malaysian chinese are like, so oppressed! no wonder when i walk out on any street in malaysia, of all the shophouses aligned in any street, in any city, in any state in malaysia, 99% of them are chinese! cause they're oppressed! that expalins a lot!

no wonder they have their own school, the ever-flourished sekolah jenis kebangsaan, the abolishment of the kouta system for university intake, the economic power, the rasism to thick inside them, cause they're oppressed!

give me a break. the only reason why malaysia is what it is today, is because the chinese are so racist, so obsessed to power, be it economic (which they definitely have right now and many years to come), politic, social. they want to take over the country for God's sake!

to the chinese: u have so much, u want more. period. stop putting the blame on others to help ur propaganda.

to the malays: unite, strnghten our ecomony, help malays, do business with malays, and stop the bulls**t! dont do drugs, dont drink, dont do anything that could harm urself, cause u are not just harming urself, u're harming the very existance of malays in the country!

A message for the Word Punisher and the Time for Action: Save the Talk!
written by E. Lubis , November 02, 2007
Who is E. Lubis? He is a business consultant who has worked and lived in many different countries and cultures including Canada, the United States of America, Australia, Japan, Tchad, Sudan, Senegal, Indonesia, Morroco, China and Malaysia. What is E. Lubis? He is a human being who cares for Malaysia and its citizens. Which unrealistic hole dit it crawl out from? I crawled out from my mother's hole which for every human being is the normal way in which one comes out into this world. My mom's hole was not an unrealistic hole but a healthy and realistic one. The Word Punisher says its time for action:Save the talk - I whole heartly agree. But the action he and others propose is actually counter productive the right way is not to add more fuel to the fire but to stop the fire from getting even worse. The only way to do that is to become more proactive to find the root causes of the problems and to apply postive solutions to remedy the situation. Whether it's corruption, racism, injustice, inequity or hatred the key to solving these problems lies in creating a more positive and best environment for it's citizens. Anything less then that will only make the situation even worse. It's time we stop attacking each other and instead reward each other for promoting good and positive behaviour and stop rewarding bad behaviour. Stop these acts of revenge against each other! Let's help, support and nurture each other's dreams and ambitions. Let's stop seeding more hatred and resentment. Let's implement the reforms necessary for everybody's benefit no matter what the race! Reforms which will create an independant judiciary, an effective crimes and corruption commission that prosecutes no matter who they are, a universal health care system that protects them when they become sick, a minmum wage for all it's workers, a strong opposition, an effective and transparent police force that is user friendly to it's citizens, independant elections at the state, federal and city council level, the repeal of the Internal Security Act to stop the imprisonment without trial, the creation of new hate legislation to protect its citizens from racial based discrimination in employment, in the media and in the government. Let's act more positively without revenge. ONLY UNTIL THIS HAPPENS WILL THE PROBLEMS IN MALAYSIA GET ANY BETTER AND NOT WORSE. WORD PUNISHER I ASK YOU WHERE IS YOUR MERCY, YOUR KINDNESS, YOUR UNDERSTANDING, YOUR INTELLIGENCE, YOUR PATIENCE - ALL I SEE IS HATE, AND MORE HATE...

Dear All Non Bumis,

I think all of you non-bumis are pointing this fault towards Bumi as a whole, when the one you should talk to is either your DAP or MCA leaders. They are the one responsible to convey your disagreement of the bumi term, not us.

Again, if you look back at Bumis, I dare to say, 50-60% are still uneducated. Why? Because they dont have money nor the resources to send their kids to study.

Speaking of corruption, its not the fault of general Bumis, its the politicians and businessmen.

To all bumis, stop making daring comments if you do not have any understanding what non-bumis are facing.

I think the privileges accorded to Bumis have somewhat weaken the race. During the frequent heart to heart discussions with my non-malay friends on the local political end economics scenario, because of the so-called "inequalities", they have emerged better, stronger and faster than their Bumi counterparts. To me it doesn't matter what happened 38 years ago. What is important now is that most chinese are wealthier than the malays due to their hardwork and business attributes. Can a country so mean let that happen?

Personaly, I cannot help but disagree with Jeremy Yau's comment that we should forget what had happened 38 years ago. With the right education and clarification on the incident, it can help enlighten our future generation on what had happened in the past and why we should not repeat it. Hiding just the ugly scences and painting victories in our text books would not help built a better individual. Building a better nation starts from culturing better individuals with true understandings and trust between races. Understandings to the past with an open mind and observance of current situations with trust and hope for a better future is what we truely need for now.
I had lost an aunt in the incident and we had lost contact with her daugther and father after that. What had happened during those times, moments before my aunt was gone, had always been unclear to me.

And as you see... most of malaysians of ethnic background of Chinese and Indians and Malays does'not even complete mix around because of discrimination policy that exists now in malaysia.... is a reality. Look around... do you see often that people of various race mix around the true is no....never often.... fight racism
written by samy , July 25, 2007
there shouldn't be any racism in Malaysia. But thats not going to happen. The victim of all this racism is Indian. For example in Fuji Electric Kulim (m) sdn bhd,its a aluminium disk manufacturing company located in Kulim hi Tech Park. You can see there majorities are chinese. There is several racist Senior Managers, for example Equipment Manager Mr KS Chan has never hired any indian technician for equipment in 10 years and mr Choo QA Manager never hired any indian graduate to be an engineer. This is a Japanese factory but this chinese making it like theirs. Another one is BS How from sputter is also a total racist and he himself is not qualified to be a manager and the only quality he has that he is a Chinese. Is there any Machine out there can make indian skin look like a chinese skin for temporary period when they go to work make them look like Chinese and after work finish they can return back as indians.

Mr.
written by E. Lubis , July 24, 2007
As an outsider from the West who has lived and work in Malaysia for over 5 years my understanding about the riots of 1969 and some of todays continued negative comments shows the failure of both the Malays, non-Malays and even "Orang Asli" to stop blaming each for what had happen and what continues to be happening today.

Instead of blaming each other it is time to finally deal with the root cause of the problems. It is time for the Malaysian society to take responsibility for the numerous inequities inside the society and to make sure concrete changes and solutions are found. Failure to do so will lead to a continued feeling of discontentment in the future.

Changes for example should occur to the judiciary to make it more independant in nature. Changes to allow for seperate state and federal elections every 5 years. To allow for all city councils to be elected and not appointed by the states - in order to make city councils more accountable and effective to it's citizens. The creation of new medicare health system that would look after all it's citizens whenever they get sick. The redesigning of the present Internal Security Act to ensure that there is more accouuntabilty and transparency to prevent wrongful imprisonment of innocent people. To allow for more press and individual freedoms in order to the citizens to protest more openly about the country and its business and government institutions. To support and nuture the development of strong opposition insitutions and political parties. The empowering of the Crimes and Corruption office to prosecute individuals of whatever stature of any wrong doing in the public service. The introduction of a minimum wage program to help protect workers from low wage rates.

These are just a few of the changes that must occur before any real progess can be made inside the country of the numerous inequities faced by it's citizens.

Having met both good and bad Malays and good and bad non-Malays the key to success or failure in Malaysia is to stop blaming each other and to find out what are the root causes of the discontentment to discuss them and then make the necessary changes in order to create a strong and healthy society.

Registered Nurse
written by Year 1973 GCE 'O' Level Studen , June 10, 2007
I was 12 when the May 13th,1969 race riots happened. I remembered the curfews and seeing soldiers with guns and showing off their powers.I was on the 4th floor looking out of the rooftop of our house and the soldiers with guns automatically aimed their guns at you then.
Oppression and racism is still very much alive in Malaysia even today. The Chinese are still being treated as second class citizens with no status.
In 1973, Dr. Mahathir was the Education Minister of Malaysia, majority of the schools who has a high proportion of chinese students failed their Malay subjects in the MCE level. This means that when one failed their malay subject, you automatically failed and cannot obtain the Malaysian Certificate of Education (which is equivalent to the British GCE 'O' Level). This then prevents you from pursuing higher education. I attended the Methodist Girls' Secondary School. Every year our school boasts averages of 80% passes in the MCE national exam. In 1973, our school has less than 30% passes in this national exam. The same fate also happens to the rest of the schools in Malaysia with a high proportion of chinese students. Needless to say, I had to repeat my whole year of schooling and repeat the MCE exam in 1974. I passed my malay subject with distinction. I had since left Malaysia and never looked back. Who needs a country that is outright racist and shows it through education, housing, businesses and the list goes on. Where is the HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP from the West?
I urge all Chinese to visit China and to feel proud because one feels that you really belong. Proud to be called a Chinese in China.
Racism and oppression rots the economy and I hope Malaysia learns it soon before more Chinese flees the country with a national anthem of 'Negara Ku'.

assimilate your nuts
written by Indian Malay-ball carrier , May 28, 2007
Yes! Chinese in M'sia long decided to assimilate into M'sian society, otherwise they would have chosen to migrate or return to China. Now, it begins to appear that, assimilate or otherwise, it is of no consequence to a govt. bent on pursuing its racist agenda. Make no mistake, a Chinese, or Indian or any other non-Malay for that matter, is not going to have his/her fate changed a wee bit (even he/she converts to Islam, speaks habitual Malay language at home, practises the Malay way of life, wear the sarong etc)! It won't happen even in a thousand years! UMNO's true colours are all too apparent for the last 50 years - they are building a Malay-supremist M'sia, man! Only naive-to-the-hilt people like Mr Jeyapalan still thinks there is a remote chance UMNO will change course. It's time you wake up!

`Kling Tow See' is actually `the black guy from India', not the `black devil' as alleged! Some Indians are marginalised amongst the Chinese peers not because Chinese are inherently racist, it is purely the manifestation of `affiliation with one's own kind' more than that across the racial devide. This is just an individual instinctive response rather the more sinister institutionalised-policy as laid out by the State. By the way, Mr Jeya fails to mention how popular & successful one `Kling' singer by the name of Mohan in the whole of China. In fact, the Chinese are the most tolerant race in the entire world. There are more `Kling' employees in Chinese firms than there are in Govt departments. We treasure competency more than mere skin-deep colour!

Yes! We will get out allright. At the same time, nothing can stop us from propagating the notion of the evilness of `bumiputraism' to the rest of the world. We will not just go & forget about this country. Many will probably wait to return for a good fight when the time comes.

Dr.Kua\'s May 13!
written by jeyapalan.t.s.mahesan , May 27, 2007
I am a third generation Malaysian of Indian Origin{Anak Buah Malaysia}.I pruchased the book. Its still on the shelf's.No problem! Its been officially catalogued in The National Library! So let's quit this charade about "ban"!
Anyway, I believe that all Malaysians, are now mature enough to be able to ascertain what is & were the facts.
We are not gulliable enough to be emotionally charged by "manuipilators" no matter how powerful they may seems to be!
All of my Malay friends( and believe me I have quite a few, including the very old lady who cradled me from birth}, young & old are not likely to get emotionally charged and run on to the streets.
To those Chinese, like the one who states "assimilate or emigrate", I have this to say - assimilate , become real Malaysians and believe in your country and its people! After all much of your Chineseness is actually "Malaysian" after some 100 plus years!
But I remember in school - I was always called 'Kling Tow See!{The Black devil from Kalinga}. I was always the outsider {It was a predominently Chinese School}. Even in later years, many of my school mates kept me out of the alma mater activities.
Further , most business in Kuala Lumpur were chinese and it was practically impossible for a non chinese to get a job in these business{ But Jaga - Indian{esp Punjabi},Driver- Malay, Peon - Indian or Malay}
In school & university, on account of my abilities I was way ahead in reading and access to books. My chinese students would coyly watch me & what I was reading , then sneak across to pick up the same books and attempt to follow!!
BUT such is the reality of our life, our people, our homeland. Malaysia is not Utophia, but by God we are working hard to make a blessed land.Mistakes are always made and will always be made. Listen to all around you as we are all God's Creatures on Earth.
And if you think you cannot hack it , then just get out AND dont come back!
Thank You!

Future of non-Malays in Malaysia--NONE
written by Realist , May 22, 2007
I was 12 at the time of the May 13 race riot. There was much talk about Razak and Harun and Tun Dr. Ismail who are the ones organising the riots. Those who were old enough to understand and recall those events, will know about the role these anti-Chinese suited gangsters. It is still a subject of discussion among us. When Harun was later convicted for corruption years later, many non-Malays felt they have got some of their revenge.
Is there a future for non-Malays? It depends. You either integrate or emigate. Those who have the means to emigrate will not have second thoughts. Those left behind are those who do not comprehend the big picture but have to survive and move along. Many of the Chinese and Indian work as taxi drivers, and small businesses. Even in these areas, they are being pressured.
Ultimately, it will be an all assimilated, Malay and Muslim country, a country of people who tolerate no diversity other than Islam (Malaysian version). Where people leave everything to God, and feel there is no need to work hard. God will provide for you. The economy will deteriorate as the Chinese leave.
A royal commission to investigate May 13? It will be a dream that never happen.
The Malays have special rights and feel that they are superior. They will never gave up this rights or vote it away. The ordinary Malays do not have the vision of their decaying lazy society if they continue protecting. The politicians will use this perception to fight for the protection of the Malays, stay in power to make more money.
The Malays feel superior not because of intelligence but because they have special rights. If a non-Malay get in involved in a minor car accident with a Malay, the Malay will always feel that he is right. He will come out of his car and say, "I will slap you". Indeed that happened a few months ago, when a Chinese lady bumped into the car of a Malay policeman (more so), he came out and slapped the lady until her face was swollen.
Some may call me a doomsday person. I am very certain that it will come true.

.starve the country of much-needed funds & talents - don't expand your current enterprises, don't reinvest excess funds, divest funds into other more deserving countries, park your capitals in S'pore & China, get your gifted children out & put them in S'pore, China, Hong Kong, Australia etc, uproot your ownself also if you can
.starve the country of FDI (foreign direct investment) - tell the whole world about this evil regime, discourage Chinese, Taiwanese, Honk Kongers, S'poreans & other potential foreign investors from putting their monies here (make their IDR (Iskandar Development Region) fail)
.inbound-tourism - tell your friends, cousins, relatives in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, S'pore etc to go somewhere else & make their tourism campaigns fail
.withhold your contributions in all fields of human endeavour, whether in science, business, sports etc..., to making M'sia proud. Boycott wearing the M'sian badge in badminton, squash, football, hockey, athletics, diving, swimming etc
.react passively to all UMNO govt social, political, economical, civil society campaigns
.withhold paying taxes, rates, contributions to govt coffer etc unless absolutely necessary
.for those already migrated, start organise yourselves into ex-Malaysian contact groups, have discussions, deliberations, extend all helps to opposition groups both within & without to bring about positive changes
.it's time to lobby China, US, Human Rights groups to raise awareness about M'sia's blatant practise of racism (a new form of apartheid?). Make the UN equate `BUMIPUTRAISM' to `RACISM' & have it outlawed in the UN, just like what they did to Nazism
.lobby China to boycott purchasing natural gas, crude oil etc from Petronas
.anybody wishes to add further suggestions to this list?

Look at Indonesia, after having been abandoned by the Indonesian Chinese for want of much-needed capitals & talents, she is now forced to abolish all these anti-Chinese legislations to the extent that she even willingly abandoned the classification of `Pribumi' amongst her citizenry in order to woo the Chinese back!

No point crying about our misfortunes in silence & wish the Malays will suddenly rediscover their consciences & change their policies. Forget about the elections because we know it is rigged & a farse. It's either armed struggle or non-violent passive resistance as practised by Gandhi.

Amir - this one is for you...

/// On a related note, my wife was criticised by a female relative because our children, having been raised in Australia, do not speak Malay well enough and speak mostly English. The grounds for this criticism was apparently that my wife lacks iman (faith) because if the children are not taught Malay, they can not read the Qur'an or even recite the Shahada (testification of faith), because one's tongue would not be able to pronounce them correctly. WTF! Aside from the obvious answer that the Qur'an is in Arabic and Malay is arguably no more similar to Arabic than English is phonetically, I was amazed by the cheek of this woman. My wife is a hijabi who prays five times daily, has a degree with a minor in Islamic studies and can speak Arabic fluently. On the other hand, this woman can't speak Arabic, has no education, and the children raised by this woman who felt she could criticize my wife include three drug users, a convicted drug dealer, a daughter who says she doesn't believe in heaven and hell and a son who gambles so much he had to divorce his wife and abandon his newborn son. Even though this woman doesn't utter a word to advise these children about their behaviour, she feels she can criticise my wife for the simple but in her view overarching fault of teaching her kids English rather than the holy tongue of Bahasa Melayu.///

Amir said: "i firmly believed that if anyone of us proudly say that we're malaysians, why are there many malaysians can't speak proper malay?"

Since when has Malaysia imposed the conditions that to be Malaysians, one must speak proper malay? Is that why so many non-Malays are treated like non-citizens are so many generations?

How to be proud Malaysians when the government does the damnest to make you feel like non Malaysians. So, you have inadvertently reveal that speaking malay is a requirement. So, this is why IIIs (Illegal Indonesian Immigrants) are given instant citizenships while your own Indian and Chinese "Malaysians" who were borned in the country and are 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th generation Malaysians are treated worse than these new arrivals who happened to speak Bahasa Indonesia?

What about those Indians and Chinese who speaks good and proper Malay. In fact, some non-Malays can even speak Malay better than Malays themselves. What are these people? Are they treated as citizens? Do these non-Malays who speak perfect Malays get discounts for housing? Get preference to go into University, into the Civil Service?

One big happy family?
written by Amir A-Hamid , May 19, 2007
indeed it's a tragedy that malaysia had to go thru 13 may 1969 incident. it was a BIG mistake and stupid for the opposition parties to have their victory parade in a malay heartland in Kuala Lumpur. and ... i'm sure today that malaysians still are not able to respect one another. i firmly believed that if anyone of us proudly say that we're malaysians, why are there many malaysians can't speak proper malay? dr kua mentions some malays are corrupted. this is true and in fact applicable to other races as well. as i see it, since the chinese have lotsa money, they'll offer money to malays who are poor and wanting opportunity to have some money. so when you talk about corruption, please don't see one party only. it involves both parties.
historically the malay sultanates may not want non-malays to be living in their kingdoms due to different religious and cultural backgrounds. it's only when the british colonialized the malay peninsula that chinese and indians were coming in drove.and again i must emphasise that the british had in mind 'divide and rule' philosophy. the society that we are in today is the product of that ruthless philosophy.

Eating with our arse
written by Tan Ban Cheng , May 18, 2007
Alex Josey first indicated, years ago, that May 13 was planned.

Later, Malaysian journalist Subky Latif, who later stood as a candidate for the Parti Islam SeMalaysia, elaborated on what happened.

Later still, it was Malaysian journalist M.G.G. Pillai who drew our attention to the same thing.

However, when for Umno leader, lawyer Marina Yusof, spoke about it, she was hauled before the court.

The rest is history. So long as we deny what had happened, so long will we betaking our food in the arse and s**tting from our mouth.

all i know is that the good people of malaysia are waiting for the truth to prevail. and umno knows that too, as they have learnt from past experiences that most political parties influences of power will decline after more than half a century. namely this, the new generation even of umno will want the truth as we and them have been learning all these years. we have learnt to trust god and truth, but umno doesnt represent that now. god bless umno ; is all i can say.

pogrom against the Chinese
written by old timer , May 17, 2007
The reason why the Western world will not take action against any country carrying out genocide against the Chinese is because they know the "power" of the Chinese in business/trading etc. Collin Abraham's book has mentioned that before WWII, the British already knew the capabilities of the Chinese and did all they could to put them down,e.g. banishment to China, restricting entry of Chinese etc. This leaves the Chinese no choice. Take action to protect your own kind. We are not Chauvinists, but faced with genocidal intentions, all Chinese must be prepared to face the music.

Digging up Malaysia\'s Racial Past by Philip Bowning
written by Philip Lau , May 17, 2007
May 13 By Dr Kua Kia Soon

1. My humble opinion, the BN controlled by UMNO will never be able to stand to the truth being exposed. Since the British Govt has Declassified the documents in connection with May 13 1969, the public must commend the Author for taking the Great Risk for himself and his family for writing this book. The facts of the case are entirely based on the documents of that time, I am positive, closely supervised by the British Intelligence Service MI 5.

2, Knowing the Tunku personally, he is a very modest and humble man. When he comes to Singapore, I was then a young man, Tunku would contact me and I would meet him at the then Old Raffles Hotel. Tunku would like to have a room on the ground floor. The last occasion I met him was he asked me to bring him to New Bridge Road, near the Adelphi Hotel as he wanted to buy a Rolex Watch. I noticed we were followed all the time by the British Security Singaporeans wherever we go. I used to meet the Tunku then with Tun Dato Sir Cheng Lock Tan at his house at his old prewar terrace house 10 Mohamad Sultan Road, as when ever he came to Singapore from his house at No. 111 Heeren Street, Malaccam

3. Knowing the UMNO group at that time, it was my intuition that the Tunku would be deposed by those under him who hate the Chinese all the time because of their wealth. As a young man I had all the the time that feeling. I expected it to occur and it did occur. I know who was behind the coup against the Tunku, as the key man behind was Tun Razak, the father of the present Deputy Minister. The Chief Minister Harun was only a KAKI. Another Key figure known to the whole world is the father of the present Foreign Minister of Malaysia.

4. The hatred for the Chinese is still there. The recent General Meeting of UMNO speaks for itself. The Youth Leader, a Minister took out his Kris and waived threatening the Chinese and others as opposed greatly by the non Malays.

5. Since Independence 60 years ago, the Kampong Malays are what they are now and in fact may be poorer. Of course, many Malays are super rich now because of the corruption well known and you can observe and look for yourselves. Corruption is part and parcel in the Malay blood. Even the Thai deposed Prime Minister Thaksin told the world that corruption is is inbuilt in the Thais.

6. Malaysia needs leaders like Raja Petra Kamaruddin but the problem there are very few people of this nature among the Malays. Corruption is the worse. It can be CURED if there is willpower and dedication among the leaders. Learn from the Northern Continental countries, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, etc. Singapore is a good example to learn, the little red dot but the richest among the South East Asian Countries.

we-hate-them : victim
written by we-hate-them:victim , May 17, 2007
Chinese & Malays can never mix! Chinese & Malay-Indonesians can never co-exist.

In Malaysia, you have the May 13 Massacre & countless other minor skirmishes. In Indonesia, there are virtually continuous pogroms, the most recent one being the vicious systematic slaughters & rapes of Chinese in 1998. These crimes against Chinese must not be allowed to be forgotten & gone unpunished! Where are those human rights groups from the West crying out on our behalf? Why are there no mention, let alone agitations for sanctions against the M'sian/Indone sian Govts., in the main-stream Western media, Western Govts., NGO's, European Parliament, US Congress, UN etc... There is a real sense that the West practises double-standard on these matters.

Where is great old China's response? When others refuse to treat their Chinese populations as their legitimate lawful citizens & single them out as targets of racist pogroms, it no longer becomes `interfering in others' internal affairs' to intervene to stop these voilence! I urge the Chinese population to apply strong pressure on their insensitive & heartless govt. to be more asertive/forceful on these incidents in future. Better still if China can bring on their gun-boats as a timely show of force if possible. China's perceived rise must be demonstrated & seen to be doing something good (protection) for the Overseas Chinese. China must not forget all the things that Overseas Chinese did for China during the Japanese Occupation some nearly 60 years ago. M'sia & Indonesia must be taught lessons for their arbitrary genocides & wanton ill-treatments of their local Chinese populations!

The contents of the book represent nothing new to the long-suffering non-Malays - the conspiracies, schemes, plots & their viciousness were long regarded as open secrets, albeit nobody wants to talk about them for fear of reprisals. I remembered the morning after 13 May 1969, one article appeared on the then `Life' magazine with the title : A BLOODLESS COUP IN KUALA LUMPUR - THE TUNKU WAS DEPOSED! The contents of the article basically coincided with the facts portrayed in Kua's book.

The book reveals nothing surprising to us. What is more startling is that the screw (restrictions/obstacles/discriminations/oppressions/hostilities towards the non-Malays) has considerably tightened over these years & with no foreseeable end in sight!

It is thus considered futile for the non-Malays to fight against the `system' as we will never be allowed to prevail against the gigantic state machinery. We may be forced to resort to non constitutional means to struggle for a separate state, either incorporated with S'pore, Thailand or completely independent by itself. All options are better than remaining cornered in M'sia.

UMNO stinks
written by AnG W KionG , May 17, 2007
The book is as good as banned. Nevertheless, the official version has always been suspicious.

Then it was the father, who caused so many to be killed. Next could be the son and it is frightening because many has link him to have a part in the murder of the mongolian. Can murder run in the genes?

The truths had finally been established and the offical version of the epochal and nightmarish event in May 1969 had been bunkum. It is time that UMNO as the related party in the event comes clean and corect whatever distorted published records so that the fateful event can be rewritten and augurs in a new agenda for ALL citizens in Malaysia.Everyone in Malaysia as citizens should be accorded equitable and fair chance to develop Malaysia furhter.Great job to Dr Kua Kia Soong for his valor in publishing the book.
