ImageThe royalist coup installs a Quisling party

The appointment Monday of "Democrat" Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva as the new Thai prime minister is the final stage of the second coup against an elected government.

After the deliberate chaos created by the PAD's seizure of the airports, the courts stepped in to dissolve the hugely popular governing party for the second time. The Army chief then called a meeting of Democrat Party parliamentarians along with some of the most corrupt elements of the governing coalition parties. It is widely believed that the Army chief and others, threatened and bribed MPs to change sides. Chief among them is "Newin Chitchorp", who was named by his father after the infamous Burmese dictator.

The Democrat Party is known among the cyber community as the "Cockroach Party". This is because cockroaches live in filthy places and can survive even nuclear holocausts. The party has survived for many years, forming governments after various crises. These so-called Democrats have systematically backed anti-democratic measures. They supported the 2006 coup, the military constitution and the PAD. One Democrat Party MP was the leader of the mob that took over the international airport.

Over the last 30 years, the Democrat party has never won an overall majority in parliament. It does not represent the people. During the Thaksin years it spent the whole time criticising the universal health care scheme and other pro-poor policies. After the 1997 economic crisis it used state money to prop up the banks and guarantee the savings of the rich, while telling the poor to fend for themselves and depend on their families. Even Abhisit's name in Thai means "privilege". He is an Oxford graduate from a wealthy family.

The first coup, on 19th September 2006, was a straightforward military coup, using tanks and soldiers wearing Royal yellow ribbons. The military junta tore up the democratic constitution and replaced it with an authoritarian one. Half the Senate was appointed by the military and many so-called independent bodies were staffed by junta supporters. The military appointed themselves to lucrative state enterprise positions. Then they got the courts to dissolve the Thai Rak Thai Party despite the fact that it had won repeated elections.

Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's Thai Rak Thai party was and remains hugely popular among the majority of Thais. This party introduced the first universal health care scheme and projects to stimulate village economies. The aim was to develop Thailand as a whole, increasing the education and health status of the general population, thus turning them into "stake-holders". This was a winning formula, an alliance between a pro-poor capitalist party and the poor, both urban and rural.

But Thaksin's modernization plans, which also included major infrastructure development such as public transport projects for Bangkok, upset the Old Order. This "Old Order" is not headed by the King, as many commentators think. The Old Order is made up of local political mafias, the army, conservative judges and the Democrat Party. They were joined by businessmen like Sondhi Limtongkul, who initially supported Thaksin, but fell out over personal interests. The People’s Alliance for Democracy mobilised a fascist-style middle class mob to cause chaos. They seized Government House, destroyed offices, stole weapons and then tried to close parliament. Their final act was the takeover of the two international airports with the open support of the military. The PAD and the old order want to reduce democracy further. They want to reduce the number of elected members of parliament, stiffen lese majeste laws and destroy the alliance between the poor and Thaksin. They are angry that the poor have become politicised. They hate the fact that state budgets were spent on healthcare, rural development and education.

I didnt get a chance to read the comment here until now, but what surprised me is that a large number of foreigners (I mean non-thai) here is pretty self-escentric aint they?? (Or is that they just pretend to be thai??)
Anyway the "Ben accusation" and ranting really amazed me, all of your accusation are mainly came from the PAD side and hardly hold any water. I dont understand how can you tied the Burmese government inhumane treatment to budhist monk to Thaksin's Sattlite business, I mean, where is it logically tied?? This gave me a impression that you are actually those that work for the PAD or the man that cant be name, so whatever you say. Your wide know truth hasnt even been prove yet, you know how dumb you make it sound? Now I have to admitted that I didnt read all of your comment, since one of the first thing u said is that Thaksin corruption case is a widely known fact and tell me to google it. yeah i'm saving you from all the embarassment. At least I can give an estimate of how much thailand lost during the air port close down, because IT IS A KNOWN FACT, put that in your thick skull. OH AND IF YOU DIDNT KNOW ABOUT THIS, LAST DECEMBER THE BANGKOKBIZ JUST CAME OUT APOLOGIZE ABOUT THE CTX SCANDLE NEWS BEACUSE THE NEWS THAT THEY REPORTED IN 2006 WAS A "HOAX" YEAH GOOGLE IT.

And last shot at Andres - dude the last thing I expect is a SWEDISH commenting on my english - what a fool.

Justice by gun! - He killed innocent people, and those whose circumstances we never heared!! I remember the idiot sanctioning an old couples home to be riddled with a machine gun, killing them!! The son of a bitch presided over 100's of Muslims being hearded into trucks, and dying from suffocation. What did this arsehole do- he congratulated the Army!
Thaksin is a selfih egomaniacal bastard.

I'm also a Farang, living in Bangkok. I skim read what you wrote, and apart from the insulting stuff, I agree with pretty much what you wrote. I've been here a while, and I've never met any other Farang who has anything good to say about him.

part 4:

I know that I am going back on my word, but I have to let one last thing out; otherwise it will pray on the back of my mind (but at least the cap lock has gone!). I just want to say that unlike the article states the P.A.D. were not a fascist middle class mob, they were ordinary Thais who share my opinion. Yes I'm sure their was some manoevering on the part of politicians, but as I stated, Thai politicians cannot be trusted, in the most part they are self serving corrupt people who want to use their position to better themselves.
This diatribe about the "Old Order" came from Thaksin's mouth himself! He was trying to justify his position and detract from it by creating an imaginary scapegoat! To say that Thai people do not want money spent on healthcare and education is a nonsense. The Thaksin government is completely innept in regard to eductaion! - We have to deal with multiple choice testing which is graded by the student's teachers themselves and used to form their grade that assesses their viability for a university place. It is well known that the education system here does not encourage free thinking, rather to learn parrot fashion. Children can pass tests, whereby if they were asked to write the answer to questions, they would not be able to do so- they even do this for maths!
In contrast the democrats headed by Abhisit a first class honours graduate (as I myself am) from Oxford University sees all the woes of education and has vowed to make things better, so that Thais learn how to think. Did you know that the government carried out a state IQ test in schools a few years ago- the average IQ was 90! Did you know that a poll of students found that 50% thought it was O.K. to cheat! -Abhisit commented that if that was the case, we have a very sorry fututure for Thailand, and that we need to make huge changes- THANK GOD! someone at last seems to be bothered to do something.

Concerning the mis-management of the Thai economy, the Democrat party formed a shadow government who made perhaps 100 alternative policies fo discussion. Many of these were deemed good ideas by the P.P.P.- HOWEVER THEY FAILED TO INACT ANY OF THEM! - The policy of the government to strengthen the Bht in the face of rising production costs and alternative competitive markets was stupendously idiotic. Thai producers need a weaker Baht to make their goods more attractive to foreign markets.

THAKSIN AND BURMA_
We all know about the suffering of the poor Burmese people and how the government has made the people's lives a misery. Did you realise that as the monks were having their skulls smashed in with bricks, as the innoscent protestors were being shot, as the seized monasteries were being piled up with foreign food aid, that was left to rot and as the soldiers pludered the best toys, clothes and food that had been donated (albeit with a Burmese government stamp on the boxes!)- Samrk had this nugget to say:

"FOREIGNERS ONLY SEE ONE SIDE OF THE COIN. DID YOU KNOW THAT THE BURMESE JUNTA MEDITATE EVERY DAY. I ONLY JUST FOUND THIS OUT.

-and what prompted him to say this one might ask as thousands of fellow Buddhists were being mascred?
Well I will tell you. Thaksin Shinawat has exclusive satelite and media contracts with Burma that he negotiated as Prime Minsister in exchange for soft loans from the Thai government!
The government was visiting other countries trying to get them to lift sanction on the Burmese - in the face of what had happened!
- Why?- Well, because the more countries that trade with Burma, the more money his Burmese arm will make of course!
Do you remember the protests against China all around the world? - When it cam to Thailand foreigners were warned that if they protested, they would be deported! Does Thaksoin have business interests in China???? Hmmmm??

The article says that corruption charges have never been proved- why is it that he has to run away from his counrty and has had his assets seized? If you lived in Thailand you would know that it was all true- the word of the people- or maybe this is what is termed as "circumstantial"- to say that his party has never been proven to have bought votes is to say that Pol Pot was a good man, Infact, I remember video evidence of one of his aids being turned up discussin payment to a villiage elder, who would in turn advise his comunity to vote for the P.P.P.

I despise Thai politics and most politicians. They have lost their souls in a sea of pathological greed. They stand for the worst of humanity. He IS the paymaster of his party they all recieve additional wages beyond that which Thai politicians are allowed. Money talks!- and in the past in Thailand, people with money could get away with doing whatever they wanted. The country has a long history of corruption, where the rich are beyond law. Thank god we might be seeing a change!

THE END- THANK GOD!

part 3: - there needed to be 3 parts to post. Apologies as I should have posted them in reverse order

I WILL ANSWER SOME MORE OF YOUR REMARKS:

Man, you’re a supremely intelligent philosopher king. Let us all worship you -- and your heroes in the PAD, too. We all love Sonthi I-saved-the-Kingdom-from-evil-forces-by-using-soiled-sanitary-naps Limthongkul and his merry band of shameless hypocrites

WELL: I HAVE KEPT THE CAPS LOCK ON SO YOU CAN DISTINGUISH BETWEEN YOUR COMMENTS AND MINE (I WAS INCREDIBLY ANGRY- HENCE THE CAP LOCKS). I DO NOT PROFESS TO BE A PHILOSPHER- BUT I JUST CANNOT UNDERSTAND YOU- THE VAST MAJORITY OF FOREIGNERS THAT LIVE HERE KNOW THE REALITIES OF THE SITUATION AND AGREE WITH ME. - REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU LIKE SONHI OR NOT, THE P.A.D. WILL BE SEEN AS HEROES FOR CHANGING THE DECLINING, AND SPIRALING DIRECTION OF THIS COUNTRY.

Hey Ben,

Imbeciles such as yourself don't belong here.

Now go take a f_ _ kin leap to the moon!

Geez!

DO YOU LIVE HERE? I DO! - IHAVE TO PUT UP WITH THE MERRY-GO-ROUND OF CRAP FROM CORRUPT THAI POLITICIANS, THAT SHAPE THAILAND TO BE AN UNRULY AND IMMORAL COUNTRY, WITH LITTLE HOPE OF IMPROVEMENT. AS I SUSPECTED THIS IS A FORUM FOR THE VAST MINORITY OF EDUCATED PEOPLE WHO SHARE THESE BELIEFS. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU LIVE HERE OR NOT, BUT ASSUMING YOU DO NOT, WHAT BUSINESS IS IT OF YOUR'S TO EVEN HAVE AN OPINION? IF YOU DON'T LIVE HERE IT DOESN'T AFFECT YOU.
P.S.
TO ALL: LOOK; I APOLOGISE FOR THE" FARANG SCUM COMMENT". I AM JUST SO INCENSED WITH THE SITUATION, WHICH DIRECTLY AFFECTS MY FAMILYS' LIFE. I WANT A BETTER COUNTRY FOR MY CHILDREN TO GROW UP IN. I REALISE THAT I WAS OVERLY OFFENSIVE, BUT IT WAS ONLY BECAUSE I CARE AND AM A TRULY PASSIONATE PERSON, WHO WISHES THAT HE COULD MAKE A DIFFERECE. I AM TRULY FRUSTRATED, AND IF I CAUSED ANY OFFENCE- I APOLOGISE.
HOWEVER, WITH RESPECT TO ALL THE BACK AND FORTH ARGUING THAT MIGHT ENSUE, IT IS TRULY WORTHLESS FOR US TO CONTINUE (ALTHOUGH I'M SURE SOME OF YOU MIGHT), BECAUSE IN THE SCHEME OF IT, IT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE TO ANYONE OR ANYTHING. WE JUST AIR OUR FRUSTRATIONS TO NO AVAIL (WHETHER PRO THAKSIN OR NOT).
THEREFORE THIS IS ME SIGNING OFF, AS I SHOULD BETTER SPEND TIME WORKING OR PLAYING WITH MY KIDS! (AS SHOULD YOU!)

FAREWELL AND GOOD LUCK.

part 2:

CAN YOU JUSTIFY THE MAN BEING GIVEN A SPECIAL "RED PASSPORT" THAT ALLOWED HIM TO COME A GO FROM THE COUNTRY, WITHOUT BEING SUBJECT TO HAVING A VISA?- THIS IN THE FACE OF CALLS FOR HIS ARREST AND TRIAL?
CAN YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT THE MAN LOVES THAILAND? THE ONLY REASON HE FOUGHT TO COME BACK WAS HIS PIG-HEADED REASONING THAT HE COULD FREE HIS 100'S OF MILLIONS IN ASSETS THAT HAD BEEN FROZEN. AFTER SAMARK WAS ELECTED, AND FOLLOWING MANY MEETINGS IN CHINA WITH THEIR BELOVED; SOMCHAI (THAKSIN'S BROTHER IN LAW) WAS GIVEN THE JOB OF FOREIGN MINISTER. HIS FIRST ACTION WAS TO FORWARD THE PASSPORT SCHEME AND MAKE A STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF HIS FAMILY MEMBER.
IF YOU CANNOT SEE THE ABSERDITY ,AND TRAGI-COMEDIC SCENARIO, THEN I HAVE NO HOPE FOR YOU. AS A THAI INTERNATIONAL LAWYER FRIEND OF MINE SAYS: THAI POLITICS IS FOR MONKEYS. - AND IT HAS BEEN FOR UNTOLD YEARS, NOT JUST NOW.

SO... THE PLANE TOUCHES DOWN IN BANGKOK IN HIS ATTEMPT TO RECLAIM HIS ASSETS, HE LEAVES THE PLANE, WALKS 400M AND THEN STARTS KISSING THE FLOOR IN FRONT OF THE CAMERAS TO SHOW HOW HE LOVES THAILAND. NEED I SAY MORE? THE MAN IS A VERY CLEVER MANIPULATIVE BUSINESS MAN, WHO WILL AND HAS DONE ANYTHING TO EXPLOIT ANY SITUATION FOR HIS OWN MEANS- THIS IS FAIR ENOUGH IN THE ROLE OF BUSINESS- BUT AS PRIME MINISTER? - I THINK NOT.

Yeah so in this sense the poor suppose to vote for those that look down on them and treat them like animal right??? yeah that ought to work. Do you have any idea how stupid that sound? Have you ever look at the Scandinavian?? The Fin got free narcotic for the addicts dude!!! why dont you say the same thing to them?? Thaksin just give Thais poor an access to a cheap and quality healthy care and if somehow that's wrong, I dont know what don't.

ANYTHING THAKSIN DID WAS DESIGNED TO GIVE HIMSELF LEGITAMCY AND SECURE AS MANY VOTES AS POSSIBLE- (SECURING VOTES WAS HIS PRIORITY, NOT BENEVOLENCY). THAI PEOPLE HAVE TO PAY MEDICAL INSURANC TO GET HEALTH CARE. THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE FOR AN NUMBER OF YEARS- MY WIFE DOES AND HAS.

IF YOU HAND PEOPLE OUT 500 BAHT DO YOU THINK THAT WILL CHANGE THEIR LIFE?- NO IT IS A CYNICAL PLOT TO SECURE THAT PERSONS VOTE. GIVE A MAN A FISH AND HE'LL EAT FOR A DAY. THAT MONEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN SPENT ON PROJECTS THAT WOULD HELP THOSE PEOPLE. MANY OF THE PEOPLE THAT YOU TERM AS POOR PRODUCE THEIR OWN FOOD, THEY ARE FARMERS AND EAT WELL. OF COURSE THEIR IS SOCIAL DISPARITY IN THAILAND THERE IS EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD, AND IT IS PROBLEM THAT EVERY COUNTRY HAS-THE BALANCE OF EXPANSIVE GROWTH, STEMMING FROM CITIES WITH DEVELOPING THE LIVES OF THE POOR. AS SOMEONE WHO IS NOT RICH, AND GIVES A SIZEABLE AMOUNT OF MY WAGES TO CHARITY EVERY MONTH (DESPITE HAVING 4 KIDS), I FULLY AGREE THAT MORE SHOULD BE DONE TO HELP THE POOR. HOWEVER, YOU CANNOT HELP THEM BY JUST THROWING SMALL AMOUNTS OF MONEY AT THEM!

NO OFFENCE, BUT I DON'T SEE WHAT YOUR OBSERVATIONS OF FINLAND HAVE TO DO WITH YOUR ARGUEMENT.

Happy New Year!
written by Ben Finesilver , January 06, 2009
DEAR BLOGGERS,

FIRSTLY, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

i have split my reply in 2 as it is too long!

I AM AMAZED THAT THERE ARE ANY FOREIGNERS THAT HAVE ANYTHING POSITIVE TO SAY ABOUT THAKSIN SHINAWAT. I HAVE NEVER MET ANYONE IN THE 5 YEARS OF BEING HERE THAT HAS EVER HAD ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT HIM. I AM FLABAGASTED. IS THIS A COLUMN FOR PEOPLE WHO SYMPATHISE WITH THAKSIN? I THINK THIS MUST BE A BLOG FOR THE VAST MINORITY OF PEOPLE THAT DISAGREE WITH ME.
THAKSIN SHINAWAT IS A MEGALOMANICAL, EGOTISTICAL BASTARD WHO MANIPLATES PEOPLE WITH NO EDUCATION TO GIVE HIS CORRUPT REGIME LEGITIMACY. THE FELLOW USED HIS POSITION OF POWER TO IMMORALLY BENEFIT HIS OWN BUSINESS INTERESTS, PERIOD.
I WORK IN THIS COUNTRY, I HAVE A WIFE AND 4 CHILDREN. I HATE THIS COUNTRY, BUT I DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE OTHER THAN TO STAY HERE (MY BUSINESS). I WANT A BETTER ENVIRONMENT FOR MY CHILDREN. THAILAND HAS MANY WOES. IT IS A DEVELOPING COUNTRY, BUT THAIS ARE LOATHE TO ADMITTING ANY FAULTS WITHIN THEIR SOCIETY. THE POLITICIANS IN THIS COUNTRY (EVEN MORE SO THAN OTHERS) ARE SELF SERVING DINOSAURS. WE NEED CHANGE. WE NEED SOCIETY TO EVOLVE AND GROW UP. WE NEED PEOPLE TO BE BETTER EDUCATED AND TAKE RULES SERIOUSLY. WE NEED BETTER POLICING AND LAW- MAKING TO ENCOURAGE FREEDOM AND FAIRNESS. WE NEED EVERYONE TO DROP THE "NEVER MIND" LAZY ATTITUDE. CAN WE DO THIS WITH THE SAME TYPE OF SELF SERVING IMMORAL POLITICIAN THAT IS ALWAYS ELECTED IN THIS COUNTRY?- NO. WILL ELECTING ABBISIT MAKE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE- NO; BUT IT IS A HUGE STEP FORWARD FOR THAILAND. IN HOLDING THAKSIN ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS MISDOINGS (IF YOU DISAGREE THAT HE HAS DONE ANYTHING WRONG, I HAVE FEARS FOR YOUR SANITY),

THAILAND IS TAKING A HUGE STEP FORWARD, AND SETTING A PRECIDENT FOR SUCH INCREDIBLE IMMORALITY TO NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN, AND FOR A FREE AND FAIR NON-BIASED MEDIA TO BE DEVELOPED (RATHER THAN ONE OWNED AND CONTROLLED BY THE GOVERNMENT).

I WILL ADRESS SOME COMMENTS:

the prince of UAE came to Thailand last year and address Thaksin as "Thaksin, my dear friend" I was at the Thaicom foundation when he was running for charity rush.

ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS IS FROM SAUDI ARABIA, SO I AM NOT PREJUDICED WHEN IT COMES TO THAT REGION. HOWEVER, WHY SHOULD THE OPINION OF THE PRINCE OF THE UAE HAVE ANY BARING ON THE ARGUMENT? THE UAE ARE CONCERNED WITH BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS AND MONEY, NOT THE PLIGHT OF THAI PEOPLE.

closing down the international airport?? closing down and looting the Government House?? how can we call those thugs hero?
MOST OF THE VIOLENCE WAS RED ON YELLOW- BUT THERE WAS SOME FROM BOTH SIDES (HOWEVER THE CROOKED MEDIA REPORTED IT AS "CLASHES" WHEN IT WAS THE RED SIDE THROWING GRENADES AT THE YELLOWS). AT THE SAME TIME THEY OVER REPORTED YELLOW ON RED VIOLENCE.
AS FOR CLOSING DOWN THE AIRPORTS AND GOVERNMENT HOUSE- WELL THAT WAS WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE. THEY WERE VERY BRAVE TO STAND UP FOR THEIR COUNTRY. IF I WAS THAI AND DIDN'T HAVE A FAMILY, I WOULD HAVE BEEN THERE.
- I MUST SAY THAT I LIVE IN RANONG THAILAND- AND 99.9% OF THE POPULATION HERE AGREE WITH ME- YOU CAN EVEN BUY T-SHIRTS WITH SLOGANS SUCH AS "THAKSIN IS SCUM" FROM THE PETROL STATION!

Well tell me Ben, where do you get all your source of information from, I'm really really curious to know. All of your Apirak rant actually makes me wondered.

THIS IS WIDELY KNOWN TRUTH. JUST GOOGLE IT AND YOU'LL FIND SOMETHING ABOUT IT. LIVING HERE YOU READ ABOUT EVERY PATHETIC STEP THAT THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT TOOK IN ORDER TO HOLD ON TO IT'S LEGITAMCY AND AVOID CRIMINAL ACTION. IT BEGGARS BELIEF THAT ANY SYSTEM WAS SO INHERINTLY AND INTRINSICALLY POOR THAT THAKSIN AND MESSARS WERE ALLOWED TO DERIDE THAT THEY HAD NEVER COMMITTED WRONG DOING FOR SO LONG.

IF YOU LISTEN TO THE STATE RUN MEDIA, YOU WILL GET A BIASED OPINION. IF YOU HAVE NO FAITH IN THE MORALITY OF THE MAN, YOU CAN READ THE SITUATION FOR WHAT IT IS. THERE WAS A PATHETIC STRING OF EXCUSES AND LOOPHOLES THAT HE RODE IN ORDER TO BENEFIT HIMSELF, HOLD ON TO POWER AND NOT FACE THE CONCEQUENCES OF HIS ACTIONS- EVEN AT THE DEATH-KNOLL HE COULD NOT FACE UP TO HIS ACTIONS AND PUT AN END TO THE MESS. IT TRULY SADDENS ME THAT EDUCATED PEOPLE CANNOT SEE THE MAN AND HIS CRONIES FOR WHAT THEY ARE.

Well what do you know, I'm an American graduate and I dont know why you said educate people not suppose to like Thaksin. I'm telling you I like Thaksin and hell I got so many good reasons to as well. You said Thaksin is being hate by everyone, but damn the prince of UAE came to Thailand last year and address Thaksin as "Thaksin, my dear friend" I was at the Thaicom foundation when he was running for charity rush.
From your post so far, I assumed that you are a foreigner living in Thailand yes?? let me ask you this, you inferred that one day we will call the PAD hero.... I mean, aint you feel ashamed when you make that statement?? closing down the international airport?? closing down and looting the Government House?? how can we call those thugs hero? Let me ask you this, did you hear this from ASTV?? or are you those "Thai" that made to sound like foreigner so people here felt like foreigner hate Thaksin??
Well tell me Ben, where do you get all your source of information from, I'm really really curious to know. All of your Apirak rant actually makes me wondered.

Oh and before you start bashing people like like Thaksin of being poor educate, you should at least hear your own logic first.
"HIS PRO-POOR POLICIES WERE DESIGNED TO GAIN POPULARITY- HE EVEN WROTE IT ON A MEMORANDUM- THEY WERE NOT OUT OF HIS OWN CONCERN FOR THAI PEOPLE'S WELFARE.
YOU HAND A POOR UNEDUCATED PERSON 500 BAHT, AND TELL THEM THAT IF THEY SUPPORT THE PARTY, THEY WILL GET MORE. WHAT WILL THEY DO???- COME ON!! "

Yeah so in this sense the poor suppose to vote for those that look down on them and treat them like animal right??? yeah that ought to work. Do you have any idea how stupid that sound? YOU ARE A MORON!
written by Ben Finesilver , December 22, 2008
THIS GUT IS OBVIOUSLY CHINESE!- MAYBE HE IS A MEMBER OF THAKSIN'S FAMILY. I CAN'T IMAGINE HE IS VERY POPUYLAR AMONST HIS STUDENTS- THEY ALL HATE THAKSIN (QUITE RIGHTLY TOO).

"So far, Thaksin and his fellow politicians have only been found guilty of technicalities. No serious corruption charges have been proven. No evidence of real election fraud has ever been unearthed. In fact, Thaksin's party was reducing the importance of vote-buying through pro-poor policies. This is what angered the old order. It meant that they could only overthrow his government by promising more to the poor or by using various means to organise coups."

-UUMM, HELLO??? HE IS A FUGITIVE! HIS WIFE HAS A CONVICTION.
HIS PARTY WAS THE ONLY ONE TO CONSISTENTLY BUY VOTES- 100% CERTAIN!

HIS PRO-POOR POLICIES WERE DESIGNED TO GAIN POPULARITY- HE EVEN WROTE IT ON A MEMORANDUM- THEY WERE NOT OUT OF HIS OWN CONCERN FOR THAI PEOPLE'S WELFARE.
YOU HAND A POOR UNEDUCATED PERSON 500 BAHT, AND TELL THEM THAT IF THEY SUPPORT THE PARTY, THEY WILL GET MORE. WHAT WILL THEY DO???- COME ON!!

HE CHANGED THE LAW HIMSELF THAT FACILITATED HIS NOT HAVING TO PAY TAX FOR THE SALE OF SHIN CORP. HE ILLEGALLY BOUGHT LAND AND PUT IT IN HIS FAMILY MEMBERS NAMES. HE SOLD HIS COMPANY TO SINGAPORE- TO THE DETRIMENT OF THE ECONOMY.

THERE ARE UNTOLD EXAMPLES OF HIS CHILDISH, IMPETULANT, CONIVING, DOGMA THAT COULD BE LISTED. THERE ARE UNTOLD OTHER EXAMPKLES THAT NO-ONE WILL EVER FIND OUT ABOUT- THINGS HE GOT AWAY WITH!

I AM WASTING NO MORE OF MY TIME. "GILES" OR WHATEVER YOUR NAME IS- YOU ARE A COMPLETE MORON! - NOTHING ELSE NEEDS TO BE SAID. EXCEPT: "GO TO HELL!"

YOU ARE A MORON!

"The Democrat governor of Bangkok had to resign recently under a corruption cloud. Yet the party was not dissolved by the courts."

THIS WAS A POLICY INITIATED BY THE PREVIOUS REGIME THAT APIRAK PRESIDED OVER- THAKSIN'S "LOT" -SAMARK WAS STILL IS FACING A COURT HEARING OVER THE CASE(WHILST PRIME MINISTER!). IT WAS THAKSIN WHO INSTIGATED A RETALIATORY INJUNCTION OVER APIRAK. HE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!
- APIRAK RESIGNED AS BANGKOK GOVERNER, DESPITE HAVING BEEN CONSIDERED TO HAVE DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB. HE DID NOT WANT ANY STIGMA TO BE UNDULY CAST ON HIS PARTY. UNLIKE THE OPPOSITION, AND INSPITE OF ANY WRONGDOING, HE RESIGNED, AS HE WANTED TO SET AN EXAMPLE AND A PRECIDENT. A PRECIDENT THAT THE DOGFIGHTING PPP/THAI RAK THAI SCUM WILL NEVER ADHERE TO, AS THEY ARE SELF SERVING RUBBISH THAT SHOULD BE IN PRISON, SHOULD IT NOT BE FOR THEIR ABILITY TO FIND LEGAL LOOPHOLES AND PRESS THE LINE OF DECENCY AND MORALITY.

HOW DARE YOU!
written by Ben Finesilver , December 22, 2008
I never knew that foreigners could have these kinds of opimions. As someone living in Thailand and being appalled for 5 years, I am amazed to think that anyone with an education could possibly be pro-Thaksin. Outside of his strongholds he is hated by just about everyone, for good reason too -there is no need to go into it, everyone knows the reasons why. To compare Abbhisit with Thaksin/Samark/Somchai is to compare an angel with the devil. I am disgusted that fellow foreigners can be so obtuse. In the future the PAD will be heralded as heroes. Knowing the history and nature of Thailand and politics, I was surprised that this group gained prominence.
Skullduggery and corruption has been an integral part of Thai society since it's inception. The incidence of corruption prosided over by the Thaksin government has bee a common thread weaved by an untold number of previous administration- except until now, no-one has cared to investigate/do anything about it. There is little regard for the upholding of law and civil rights in Thailand. No-one stands for anything apart from there own self-interest. How blind you are to see that the mere fact that Thais stood up for themselves, is an act of positive change. Thaksin's party resorted to despotism. They controlled the country by handing money out to influential people such as Taxi drivers and villiage elders that could inflence voters. They appealled to the ignorant masses, promising them money for their continued support, poeple who believe that they can communicate with the sky by lighting fireworks. The vast majority of intelligent people outside of Chang Mai and Isaarn despise the PPP. The PPP, of whom each member was being payed a supplementary income to their capped 100000 baht/month wages by Thaksin, did just about anything to serve there own self interest, regardless of whether it hurt the country. How dare you criticise the heroes that are the P.A.D. YOU ARE FARANG SCUM.

Its not that I dont see, but I just want to point out the bias in this statement. He/she doesnt have to bash Gile just to prove his point, but dont get me wrong, I probably hate people like Gile who, once, was in with the PAD and probably play no small part in the mess we are dealing with now.

Giles has seen the light
written by Vendome , December 17, 2008
I remember GZiles a few years back campaigning against Taksin and the cronyism of his party. And then when the military moved in and swept out Taxsin in September 3006, Giles suddenly saw the light. That while Taxsin and his friends may have been less than perfect, there was something far worse waiting in the wings.
On the first day of the coup when the military banned groups of 5 or more people, G was in front of the Emporium with a group of students testing the authorities already.
I beleive G has arrived at his current frame of opinions after a long and hard look at the political situation in Thailand. This article is extremely explosive and could land him in a lot of trouble within the country. Therefore he is very brave to stand up for his beleifs.
I do think he lets the monarchy off lightly, however. Yes, the king is weak and is now hostage to the military, old age and ill health. But queen sirikit did go to the funeral of a PAD supporter and publically called her a patriot. That was a very visible statement. Interestingl she did not go to the funeral of the PAD supporter who blew himself up while transporting bombs in his own vehicle on the same day. And presumably she will not go to the funeral of the PAD supporter found dead at the airport, killed by his own mob.
However the point is that many people in Thailand share the belief that the queen herself is positioning herself to take over the monarchy on the death of her husband, and that the royal household is divided into many factions each hoping to be well-positioned when the monarchy passes over to the next monarch. Because of this royal hands are guiding those who control the PAD mob, the judiciary and the democrat party.

Danny boy, my friend, what a sorry little creature you are. Now that you've put all your cards on the table, I regret ever having engaged in an attempt to reason with you. The answers to your questions: no, no, no, no and no. You had a good run there with your guesses, innit. I do hope you have more insight in other matters and aren't the benighted loser you sound like. Anyway, I'll leave you to your own devices. An insult from the likes of you is a compliment.

Rodent:

1.I don't think Danny's objective is to critize Chula teachers; it's to critize bias and opinion of such a explosive and dangerous topic being taught by a university professors
2.This article and blog have nothing to do with other Chula teachers.
3. It does not seem that he is taking sides--it's merely and critique of extremism in a leading institution of education.

So , nothing to do with sides. Can you and Pippi see???

I'm really surprise that Gile actually write something like this, he was on the PAD stage 3 years ago ?! wow,
Oh and Danny, the fact that you fail to mention or know this fact say something about your knowledge about the whole situation, sorry but I happen to see you fighting with pippin and I found your arguement pretty contradictory, you see, while you are here bashing Thaksin and Gile, did it even come to your sense that many (and I say many) Chula University teacher and professor went to the street with the PAD for the last 6 months, some might be even participating the air port closure, so while you are saying about teacher like Gile to be unbias, why didnt you criticize the Chula teacher that tare the vote ballot and when out and criticize Thaksin openly ??.

BTW if the media is on Thaksin side, the Bangkok Biz wouldnt be coming out and apologize about the CTX case where they make the whole thing up, you can go see on their web site if its still there.
PS. they even get a reward for the news you know???

Your condescending tone is very much in line with your holier-than-thou ignorance, as should be expected. Yes, it's easy enough for me to understand that you are unaware of very simple concepts, such as objectivity. Much of what is taught at university is and must by default be subjective. Only empirical science deals in objective certainties and despite its name "political science" isn't a real science. Contrary to your narrow-minded view, according to which only your opinions are objective and everyone else's are subjective piffle that should not be aired, quite the reverse should be the case at universities -- or in chatrooms like this, for that matter. Let there be a free discussion in the market place of ideas so they can be judged on their merits, especially in Thailand where open debate is practically nonexistent in the country's media. Frankly, it's ridiculous that you have the guts to mention journalistic integrity and objectivity in Thailand, where The Nation and, to a lesser extent, The Bangkok Post are nothing but shameless purveyors of the party line of an elitist self-serving group. If you disagree with the points raised in the piece under discussion, let's hear your reasoned arguments. Your ad hominem rants hardly add much to the discussion.

Dear Sir, allow me to simplify my comments for you. I believe everyone can have their opinion or color, such as you or I; although, I tend to be quite colorblind lately (see my comment on red and yellow). Personal beliefs ,however, should not be disseminated through the education system. Education , and indeed fair media, should be unbiased and objective. Is this easy enough for you to understand? or are you still having fantasies regarding shootings.

He has been backup by invisible power to be a puppet only.

I doubt you can define democracy alongside rule of law and Thaksin Shinwatra in the same breath.

You cannot control over foreign media like you have done in our country. Thailand has being ruined because you do not know what your duty is. The democracy should go along the way with peoples voice, not by military sanction and some "invisible power" control over it. What Mr. Gile said is the truth that people in our country cannot say it, not a half truth. Ecnomonist was not a victim either, they just say the truth.

"Even Abhisit's name in Thai means "privilege"

I disagree with Gile for saying that “Abhisit” in Thai means “privilege.” Privilege is a special right that you legally obtain. On the contrary, “Abhisit” means a right that you obtain illegally. For example, a young man dodged military draft and get away with it because his dad is a powerful man. Thai people would say this young man has “Abhisit.” (This is a perfect example, since Abhisit himself is a draft dodger and he gets away with it.)

Answer to your question
written by Puripong , December 15, 2008
1. Will the government punish PAD leaders for breaking the law, including the Democrat MP who took over the airport? Will the PAD be made to answer for the damage at Government House? Will the Democrats expel their MP who lead the airport occupation?

Answer : It is a no-no and would never been happened. This new government established by PAD and military sanction. It is a hopeless to see those PAD being in jail.

2. Will the military chiefs be sacked for breaking the law and intervening in politics? Will they be sacked for giving the green light to the takeover of the airports and thus compromising airport security?

Answer : It is a no-no either. It has an "invisible power" backed him up of course. smilies/wink.gif Ya know it.

3. Will the government defend the undemocratic constitution or will it amend the constitution to increase democracy?

Answer : No unless for their own profits only.

4. Will elections be held as soon as possible to allow the Thai population to have a say?

Answer : May be possible but not in a soon. They have to these ordered missions first.
- Eliminate everyone and every party who dare to being against them and their boss.
- Preventing PAD from being punished
- Pay back to every supporters smilies/wink.gif

5. What serious measures will the government take in order to protect the poor from the economic crisis. What job creating policies do they have? How can they stop workers being sacked from factories. Will they increase wages and cut VAT in order to stimulate the economy? Will they increase taxation on the rich in order to help the poor?

Answer : I wonder about this either. Democrat party always break down country economics by their puxxy brain. They will only get a loan from other countries and push them into their corruption circle. They are backing PAD and those fuxxing PAD crash out 200,000 workers in Thailand to being sacked!!

6. Will the government punish state officials who murdered unarmed demonstrators in the south at Takbai during the Thaksin government? Will they withdraw troops and police so that a peaceful political solution can be achieved?

Answer : No. You know it already don't you? smilies/wink.gif

7. Will the government ensure a balanced media by allowing significant space for Red Shirt anti-government critics? Or will the government increase censorship and media bias? Will they repeal the les majesty law and allow public scrutiny and criticism of the courts?

Answer : Absolutely no!! They never wanted people to know the truth of what they have done to our country. They just want to being empowered themselves without the vote of peoples. It is a shame to have Democrat party to govern our country.
